Sea Nomads
2024

Architecture
Hidden among the jungle of Playa La Saladita, Sea Nomads is conceived as a retreat for surfers and travelers seeking silence, privacy, and communion with nature. Each bungalow is carefully placed between existing trees, ensuring no vegetation was removed and that the architecture appears almost as a fleeting presence, a quiet rhythm between shadow and light.
Concrete, oak carpentry, pine roofing, and clay tiles form a palette that feels at once grounded and enduring. The roofs, inspired by traditional Mexican typologies, shelter the spaces from the sun and heavy rains, while wide openings and cross-ventilation keep interiors fresh. Only ten percent of the land is built upon; the remaining expanse is left untouched, reinforcing the sense of immersion in the landscape.
With private plunge pools, open kitchens, and resting areas scattered across the site, the project nurtures both solitude and community. The atmosphere is serene, mystic, and profound—an architecture that does not impose, but rather dissolves gently into its coastal forest setting.
PROJECT TYPE
Hospitality — Surfer retreat with private bungalows.
DETAILS
The design of Sea Nomads followed a path rooted in respect for nature and the client’s vision:
- Initial zoning to preserve as much jungle as possible.
- Careful orientation for ventilation, privacy, and views.
- Iterative positioning of each bungalow around existing trees.
- Six months of design refinement balancing client goals and environmental constraints.
- Selection of durable, low-impact local materials suited to the coastal climate.
Development of bungalows with open plans, perimetral hallways, and plunge pools that merge into the landscape.
''Trabajar con Estudio Bao fue un exito, lograron bajar mi vision a un resultado que me encanta manteniendo el estilo de ellos y usando una estetica que sobrepaso mis expectativas. Sin dudas los vuelvo a elegir para construir mi proyecto''
